Linde is currently seeking a Transport Optimization Manager – Healthcare Cylinder Operations, North America to join the team.



Purpose of the Position:


The position has functional reports 
Provide and enable service levels to meet PSO as defined by the business at lowest total delivered product cost at or exceeding target, consistent with all Linde and regulatory safety standards. Indirectly manage and consult all healthcare transport operations to include operating and tactical strategies through data analytics, technology advancements, and effective change management. Provide strategic direction to management with regards to best practices and benchmarking on outsourcing, pay structure, part time drivers, truck specifications, delivery window analysis, hot seating of trucks, etc


o Work with scheduling center to maximize route efficiencies for the 200+ vehicles within NA Healthcare cylinder operations 
o Quickly get and maintain a detailed understanding of the Distribution cost stack
o Analyze all aspects of route efficiencies to insure best practices and that local operations are managing schedule compliance 
o Assist local managers in managing the overall NA Healthcare cylinder operations distribution budget of @ $35M (+/-) supporting revenue of @ $150M (+/-)
o Work with Fleet Equipment Program Manager to maximize distribution assets for RNA HC to include CAPEX and replacement program and strategy

o Track and improve on driving styles to meet the Linde minimum safety standards for speed recording, hours management, and accident reconstruction, utilizing OBC and other technologies
Collect and analyze On Board Computer data and apply to the route management and KPI solutions
Identify training needs and support local management to obtain and conduct such training
o Select/create data analysis and KPI’s that improve distribution safety and efficiency performance
Distribution Project Management to include (Not Comprehensive):
o Fleet Controller/OBC management 
Individual Cylinder Control (Transport portion)
o DriveCam 
o Network analysis & optimization
o Analyze and determine with Head of Healthcare Operations if the development of an outsource transport strategy is prudent 
Safety Leadership:
• Accountable for own and team’s safety and ensuring that 100% of own behavior is safe 100% of the time
• Implement innovative safety systems and processes with strong behavioral focus 
• Provides support and sponsorship of Transport Safety and provides input into Regional HSE plans
• Manages processes to ensure compliance with legislation, site rules, and Linde standards by employees and contractors 

• Networks internally and externally to share best practice (e.g. Global Transport Safety Manager, Quality, HSE, Major Contractors, Area Managers and Local Manager’s)
• Implements the requirements of Alerts, Directives, Lessons from Loss and changes to standards including communicating changes to employees and ensuring that they are trained as required
• Ensures that risk assessments are complete and up to date by area in line with Global requirements
• Liaise with external agencies when and where necessary 
People Leadership (When Applicable):

Customer Service:
• Ensure team understands the importance / significance of the customer
• Monitors service failures, returns, stock outs, incomplete deliveries, etc. and create plans for improvement
• Monitors customer needs and customer survey results and develops plans for improvement
• Works collaboratively with other functions to maximize service levels
• Drive improvement in the provision of services to customers
• Deliver and support Product Service Offers in line with Business strategies
• Alignment of contractor activities with Linde Global Best Operating Practice
• Initiate projects to implement Best Operating Practice in Transport Operations and Distribution Strategy Development:
• Works closely with Business Managers to develop agreed distribution PSO and implement in the most cost effective manner
• Develop strategies that consider economic and industry factors to ensure that Linde are operating at a level considered at the top level of industry standards

 •Further develop and sustain Distribution systems processes and disciplines at all levels within agreed strategic framework
• Continuous analysis, development and advocacy of Distribution best operating practice
• Further develop existing system tools to ensure that we maximize their outputs e.g. GOLD, Paragon,…:
• Participate in global distribution peer group meetings (including Transport Safety if relevant)
• Develop and lead Best Operating Practice in Logistics Management 
• Oversee Truck and Car Driver Trainer Forums to ensure consistency in practices, behaviors and training
• Actively support and comply with area and regional initiatives
• Work with regional team and functional peers to resolve any customer or channel conflict and to deliver regional targets
• Build strong collaborative relationships with other Linde departments, specifically Major Customers, Area Managers, Marketing, Customer Service Centre, Commercial, Operations, CES and Logistics
Operational Efficiencies:
• Achieving agreed service levels and costs and delivering contracted KPI’s. Continually improve key KPI’s to achieve or improve upon BOP targets. Ensure employees are consulted in this process. 
• Develops Continuous Improvement Initiatives to drive step change improvements in Distribution cost performance
• Meets Linde GAP targets
• Owns the delivery of the cost budget including improvements required during the year and monitor and manage performance against key indicators for example productivity and headcount
• Manage all distribution contractor relationships and contract reviews
• Lead the specification of fleet equipment for cylinder vehicles and deliver sustainable fleet maintenance programs
• Develop project plans to articulate appropriate work streams that need to be managed and ensure appropriate delivery 
• Implements projects – incident free, under cost, on time and with no disruption to customer service
• Ensure that purchasing activity, including contract negotiations is conducted within Linde’s policies. Ensure appropriate controls are in place when managing this portfolio e.g. Regular contractor reviews
• Ensures adherence to best operating practices and/or have an action plan to bridge the gap with BOP.
• Successfully implements BOP initiatives through engagement with the regional teams and support of local implementation
• Ensuring that sufficient equipment is available in each region to meet customer demand in the most effective manner



  • Bachelor Degree Transport & Logistics Desired
  • Minimum 5 Years Transport & Logistics
  • Minimum 8 Years Management - Desired
  • Ten+years relevant gas/chemical industry (or equivalent) experience in a Supply Chain/Logistics related environment - Preferred




  • MBA or Masters level degree a plus
  • APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) - Preferred
  • An expert level working knowledge of the DOT/dangerous goods transport regulations required 
  • Expert transport analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill and experience with commercial software systems dealing with the various aspects of the regulatory compliance requirements
  • Six Sigma Black Belt – Preferred
