    Linde is currently seeking a Controls Engineer Markets to join the team in the Murray Hill, New Jersey area.



    Purpose of the Position:


    The Controls Engineer’s role is a key member of the Markets Engineering Team.  The Markets Engineering Team provides equipment engineering and best operating practices to the RAS business (Markets).  This role creates industry leading innovative controls technology and electrical panel designs for customer related application equipment through the use of engineering and controls principles and intimate industry experience in the design, quoting, fabrication, procurement, commercialization, delivery and support of food, metals, chemicals, H2 Fueling and industrial application equipment.  Contributes substantially to the Linde Safety Culture through proactive assessment, design and intervention on Linde equipment offerings and support ensuring that safety is visibly a part of every decision  Provides controls and electrical panel technical expertise for Linde’s application equipment and contributes toward efforts to sell application equipment and gases through the timely delivery of quotes and estimates.

    Premium pricing and revenue from Markets Industries related gas and equipment sales are highly dependent upon the controls equipment projects managed by this role.


    —         Ensure that proper safety considerations are always encompassed with respect to design, project execution, fabrication, start-up, commissioning and support activities.
    —         Ensure that PLC controls logic and electrical panel designs meet safety and design standards, and applicable codes. 
    —         Individual technical contributor to identify, develop, design and implement improved operating and control strategies for Markets application equipment to support Markets Engineering and Industry objectives.
    —         Execute instrumentation, process control, electrical panel and automation projects. Lead activities involving system design, configuration, fabrication, testing, loop tuning, commissioning, troubleshooting and support. Work closely with other Markets and Global Support personnel such as Application Equipment Engineers & Designers, Application Sales Engineers and Project Managers for executing projects.
    —         Develop application equipment control system strategies to fulfill customer need to remotely monitor process and/or integrate application control system into other parts of their operations.
    —         Develop control functions standards, including standard PLC programming blocks and standard elements for HMI screens
    —         Ensure compliance with local, regulatory, corporate and business standards for system hardware and software
    —         Mentor junior engineers, in particular those engineers who are part of the MID development program, utilizing acquired technical knowledge, organizational knowledge and experience.
    —         Independently manage outside fabricators, engineering contractors, and other temporary services to ensure that Linde standards and policies are followed.
    —         Execute strategies independently for, 1) product life cycle management of application equipment controls systems, 2) improving equipment controls designs to meet market needs and/or improve cost an/or quality position and/or keep pace with applicable design codes, 3) Integrating equipment controls designs from European standards to US standards
    —         Independently execute assigned special continuous improvement projects, such as HPO, Safety of Equipment, work flow processes, fabrication strategy, equipment/ technical training, improvement of work flow processes, improving application of standards, protocol development, etc
    —         Perform role of controls Technical Expert to support projects, troubleshooting, HAZOPs and Engineering Management of Change processes
    —         Responsible for accuracy of controls logic and electrical designs, drawings, specifications, bills of materials and manuals for application equipment assignments
    —         Designs and specifies application equipment electrical systems up to 600 VAC and document designs in the form of ladder logic diagrams, loop diagrams, panel layout drawings, and component BOM's.
    —         Manage and execute controls application equipment projects as required to support RAS Markets
    —         Manage the procurement and fabrication of controls equipment with fabricators and vendors
    —         Responsible to complete assigned projects on schedule and within budget.
    —         Resolve controls related application equipment problems encountered at customer and fabrication sites, including customer on-site consultation.
    —         Validate controls equipment functional quality and workmanship through functional testing and developing new test protocols as required
    —         Oversee all project-related procurement activities to control costs, achieve desired specifications, and on time delivery of equipment and/or components
    —         Develop training content and provide training as required
    —         Participate in and/or lead design reviews and HAZOPs for application equipment and take ownership of all assigned action items. 
    —         Provide and manage timely quotes to Application Sales Engineers, Application Equipment Engineers and Project Managers
    —         Complete close-out checklists for controls application equipment projects, including making sure all calculations are documented and filed to project folder, and as-built version of manuals are completed and distributed.



    • Bachelor Degree Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or Equivalent
    • Minimum 5 Years PLC/Controls automation, electrical design, control system networking, troubleshooting and project management experience
    • Minimum 3 Years Experience  working in an equipment manufacturing, installation  or maintenance environment
    • Minimum 3 Years Ability to read, review, develop and/or modify electrical
      schematics, process flow diagrams and P&IDs

    • Proven track record of designing and installing controls, automation and low voltage electrical panels that support machine/equipment operation and human interface
    • System integration (machine automation, operator/machine interface, data integration and management)
    • PLC Hardware: Siemens and Allen Bradley systems
    • PLC and HMI Programming/Software: SIMATIC Step 7, WinCC, TIA Portal, Rockwell, RSLogix 500/5000, FactoryTalk Studio Machine Edition, GE IFIX, Wonderware
    • Ability to design logical, effective and simple PLC programs and HMI screens for easy operator interface, maintenance and troubleshooting
    • Ability to design and troubleshoot low voltage (< 600 volts) electrical panel systems
    • Experience specifying and designing motor controls via inverters and variable frequency drives
    • Control loop tuning
    • Experience in technical interactions with internal and external customers
    • Integration testing and commissioning
    • Ability to train operators, engineers, technicians and customers.
    • Process engineering: familiarity with Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, basic chemical and mechanical processes and control interfaces
    • Understanding of gas processes, and cryogenic processes preferred
    • Ability to create concise and logical technical summary documents
    • Ability to work effectively in an organizational matrix environment
